Gwyneth Paltrow seems to enjoy being consciously uncoupled. She and Chris Martin have "worked really f---ing hard to get to [this] point," she says of their current relationship in a new interview with Marie Claire. "But we're very, very close, and it's so nice. I feel like it's, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have." Of their breakup, she notes that there was "nothing dramatic," but says, "I had built my life on trying to be all things to all people, and I just couldn't do it anymore, and I really had the sense that I wasn't allowed to have needs, and I had to prove my specialness or self-worth by doing all this stuff and taking care of everybody else, and I just sort of hit a wall."
The interview was released just days after another Paltrow interview with a slightly different tone came out, this one with Harper's Bazaar. "Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want. But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we’re really close," she said in that one. "It’s painful, it’s difficult, it might be easier to say, 'I never want to see you again,' but what good does that do anyone? ... We’ve made a lot of mistakes, and we’ve had good days and bad days, but I have to say, I’m proud of us for working through so much stuff together—and not blaming and shaming."
