Four people were stabbed last night on an Amtrak train in Michigan, reports Reuters. The motive is unclear, and all four have so survived. Police arrested 44-year-old Michael Darnell Williams of Saginaw, Michigan, reports the South Bend Tribune. Williams appears to have boarded alone in Chicago, and soon after Amtrak reported to police that passengers were complaining about a suspicious person on the train. Authorities met the train at its stop in Niles, Mich., but by then the attack already had started, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

"It was terrifying and you don't think something like that is going to happen to you," says one passenger who heard screams after the train stopped at the Niles station, then witnessed the attack before police were able to subdue the assailant. One woman and three men were injured, including an Amtrak conductor. More than 170 passengers were aboard the train at the time. (More Amtrak stories.)
