New York City has had three ticker-tape parades since 9/11, and all three were for sports teams, writes Michael Daly in the Daily Beast. It is way past time, then, to throw one for the vets have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, he argues. No disrespect to the Yankees and Giants, but the vets surely are more befitting of a journey up the city's famed "Canyon of Heroes" stretch. Daly's suggestion for the parade: Sept. 11, 2015.
"The advantage to having a parade on 9/11 is it would remind everybody that the war started with an attack on America," he writes. "The honored marchers could head from the end of the parade to the memorial plaza afterward and spend time with the families who lost loved ones on that day." Or just throw one as soon as it can be organized, writes Daly, but either way, the vets should get the next one—no matter what happens in the world of sports.
