Bowe Bergdahl is freely telling his story to Army investigators about how he came to be held captive by the Taliban. Bergdahl waived his right to remain silent yesterday, "letting the facts unfold in his own voice" to Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl, who is in charge of the investigation into his disappearance, Bergdahl's new lawyer tells the New York Times. "He has responded to every question asked of him," says Eugene Fidell. As to what that story is—and whether Bergdahl abandoned his base and headed for the Taliban of his own accord—Fidell isn't saying.

"It has been a combination of a conversation and a narrative, and it has been entirely nonconfrontational," says Fidell, who added that the interview was carried out in a "comfortable" room with four people present at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Questioning continues today, and Bergdahl's interview will help determine whether he will face any sort of punishment, including for desertion, the AP reports. (More Bowe Bergdahl stories.)
