Conspiracy Theories on Diana Unravel

Mohamed al Fayed's grand conspiracy theories regarding the death of son Dodi and Princess Diana took a blow today as his chief investigator had to admit time and again on the witness stand that he had no evidence to back them up, the Guardian reports. John Macnamara grew increasingly uncomfortable at the Diana inquest as he acknowledged he had no proof of elaborate murder plots and cover-ups, only Fayed's assertions.

Macnamara, a former Scotland Yard detective, said he could not substantiate claims that Diana was pregnant and engaged to Dodi, that their deaths were a criminal conspiracy, or that her bodyguards were paid to lie about the crash. He also admitted lying 10 days after the crash when he said there was no evidence that chauffeur Henri Paul had been drinking. “I have come here to tell the truth,” Macnamara said.
