After almost six months, F1 racing legend Michael Schumacher is out of the medically induced coma in which he was placed after a December 29 skiing accident in the French Alps. In a statement, his family says the hospital staff in Grenoble did an "excellent job," and that the 45-year-old has left the hospital and will "continue his long phase of rehabilitation" for the severe head injury he suffered at an undisclosed location "away from the public eye."
According to the Guardian, that "secret" location is the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland, near Schumacher's home; the hospital confirms the seven-time F1 champ arrived there today. The last official communication from his spokesperson had been in early April, when she said Schumacher was making "small signs of progress" and having "some moments of communication." A German magazine reported last Friday that Schumacher was "out of danger," but claimed he is not likely to see a full recovery. (Read more Michael Schumacher stories.)
