Thirty children and more than 20 adults were attending a 1-year-old's birthday party at a Sacramento park Saturday when a group of gunmen arrived and started shooting. But they fled when some of the party guests answered with their own guns, the Los Angeles Times reports. Even so, an adult male partygoer was killed and six others were injured, including a 7-year-old girl.

Police believe the incident was gang-related, and that the shooters were targeting a group of adults at the party. But a cousin identifies the victim as 28-year-old Jacoby James, and tells the Sacramento Bee she does not believe he was the intended target. She says he was at the park because "it was his friend's son's birthday," and he brought his own 6-year-old son. Investigators are still searching for the suspects, none of whom have been arrested yet. (Last month, a 7-year-old was killed in an accidental shooting at a South Carolina birthday party.)
