After 14 Years, 'Jacob' No Longer Top Boy Baby Name

It's replaced by 'Noah,' while 'Sophia' reigns again for girls

After 14 Years, 'Jacob' No Longer Top Boy Baby Name

Noah sailed past Jacob to become the most popular baby name for boys in 2013, ending Jacob's 14-year run at the top. Sophia was the most popular baby name for girls for the third straight year, according to the Social Security Administration's list of the most popular baby names, released today. The rest of the top 5 for boys:

  1. Liam
  2. Jacob
  3. Mason
  4. William

And for girls:

  1. Emma
  2. Olivia
  3. Isabella
  4. Ava
Social Security also charts the fastest-rising names each year. For girls, the runaway winner was Daleyza, which jumped a whopping 3,130 spots, to No. 585. For boys, the fastest rising name was Jayceon, which jumped 845 spots, to No. 206. (More baby name stories.)
