JaJuan Smith made sure No. 7 Tennessee didn't hand Butch Pierre a win in his first game as interim coach for LSU. Smith picked the ball from Marcus Thompson and went the distance for a layup to give the Volunteers a 47-45 SEC win today, reports the Associated Press. The Volunteers (21-2, 8-1) survived after blowing a 12-point second-half lead. In other NCAA action:

  • No. 12 Texas overcame a double-digit deficit for the third straight game to beat Iowa State 71-65 in a Big 12 game. A.J. Abrams scored 25 points and D.J. Augustin added 17 for Texas.
  • Florida ended a two-game losing skid with a 77-67 SEC win over Georgia. Gators freshman Chandler Parsons led the way with 18 points off the bench.
