Washed-Up Whale in Jersey Gets Tagged With Graffiti
Bob Schoelkopf, left, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, looks over a minke whale that washed up in Atlantic City, N.J.   (Vernon Ogrodnek)

A dead Minke whale that washed ashore in New Jersey suffered one last indignity: someone tagged it with graffiti. The whale, roughly 12 to 15 feet long, was discovered Thursday morning below Atlantic City's Central Pier. This looks like the work of a former frat boy rather than a gang member, however. The markings appear to be the Greek letters for Tau Epsilon Phi, a fraternity that has chapters at several area schools, followed by what looked like "94." A state pathologist will try to determine the cause of death. (Meanwhile, it looks like a blue whale that washed up in Newfoundland won't explode as originally feared.)
