Kobe Bryant hit two free throws inside a minute left and host Orlando went cold down the stretch, missing five straight shots in a 117-113 Lakers victory. The sellout crowd, which included Tiger Woods, saw Bryant's new sidekick, Pau Gasol, net 30 as LA overcame a 44-point first-period explosion from the Magic. Dwight Howard scored 19 in the loss. Elsewhere:

  • The other LA team, the Clippers, got their second road win in 11 tries, 102-98 in Toronto, led by Corey Magette's 35 points. Raptors guard T.J. Ford drew a loud ovation in his first home action since a head injury in December.
  • Jason Kidd had his league-best 12th triple-double of the season as the Nets hammered hapless Charlotte.
