Driving on Kansas City-area highways is a somewhat terrifying prospect right now: Someone is shooting at cars as they do just that. At least 20 shootings have been reported since March 8, the Kansas City Star reports, many of them near the busy Three Trails Crossing (formerly known as Grandview Triangle) highway merger, as drivers were on highway entrance or exit ramps. Drivers are, understandably, "uneasy," they tell KCTV. "You don't know who they are shooting at," says one. "It could be anybody." Three people have been injured so far, none seriously.
Investigators are looking into whether the incidents are definitively linked; though they started in early March, they ramped up last week, with daily shootings from Wednesday through Sunday, but none reported since. There's also the possibility similar incidents occurred prior to March 8. The Star notes that the shootings likely happen near ramps or road splits so that the shooter can easily take off in a different direction after firing at the victim. Some of the shots have definitely come from a vehicle, though police aren't ruling out the possibility others have come from a shooter on the ground. (More highway shootings stories.)
