Daniel Paille had two goals for the Sabres in a 4-2 Buffalo victory over the Boston Bruins. Buffalo has won four of its last five and is fighting their way back into playoff contention; they are now just four points behind Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot. Ryan Miller had 30 saves in the win, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Teemu Selanne, making his season debut, had an assist in the Anaheim Ducks’ 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders. Selanne had briefly entered retirement and missed the Ducks’ first 56 games.
  • Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the Capitals 4-3 overtime victory over the Blue Jackets. Ovechkin leads the NHL with 45 goals.
