Coming to Sears: Drive-Thru Shopping

Order online, drive to the store, and an employee will bring you your stuff

How to compete with online retailers? Sears has one idea: Offer drive-through shopping. The company is introducing "in-vehicle" curbside pickup, a program powered by a mobile app, MarketWatch reports. Customers place an online order, download the Sears app, drive to the store, and use the app to notify Sears they've arrived, the Washington Post reports.

The app then starts a 5-minute timer—and if your order hasn't been delivered to your car by an employee by the time it goes off, you get a $5 coupon. Feedback has been positive so far, says a senior vice president: "It’s very convenient for senior citizens who have problems with movement or moms with young kids." If the program is successful, sister company K-Mart could also see it implemented there. (More Sears stories.)
