Last year, Amazon revealed it sold so many Christmas Story Leg Lamps over the holiday season that, if stacked, they'd reach the top of Mt. Everest. It seems 2013's hot lamp was the Himalayan Crystal Lamp, which, if stacked, would also make it to Everest's peak. It's just one of many quirky revelations the company made in its holiday season press release. Others include the fact that customers ordered a record-breaking 426 items per second on Cyber Monday (for a grand total of 36.8 million items), and that between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, more than five toys were ordered every second from a mobile device. More wild facts tied to hot items:
- It was the year of the Rainbow Loom, and Amazon sold a lot from third-party sellers; so many that the bands could stretch around the Earth's circumference.
- Cross-body purses are apparently in: The number purchased would "outfit every attendee at a typical Taylor Swift concert."
- 2014, the year of clean homes? If you lined up all the upright vacuums sold, they would reach Earth's deepest point (the Mariana Trench) 15 times over.
- Cocktail, anyone? Don Draper could fill his whiskey glass with ice for 251 years with the number of Tovolo Sphere Ice Molds sold.
- Archery is still hot: The number of youth archery kits could equip "every resident of Katniss Everdeen's hometown, District 12, four times over."
- Enough Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray combo packs were sold to "span the distance of 25 Star Trek Enterprise space ships."
