When a man stole money from the tip jar at an Ohio coffee bar, the employees didn't react how you might expect: They didn't contact police, but they did start a food drive for the man. "We assume that if he was desperate enough to steal tips, he's probably in desperate times," the manager of the Nervous Dog Coffee Bar in Stow tells WKYC. "In the holiday spirit, we decided to help this guy out."
Both that location and a second location in Akron are collecting food, which will be given to the man—whose misdeed was caught on security video—should he come forward, no questions asked. If he doesn't, it will be donated to a food bank by Christmas. While some are critical of the move, arguing that it rewards bad behavior, the manager says, "We are trying to show awareness that people are going through hard times." (In October, a police officer caught a struggling mom shoplifting ... and bought her groceries.)
