"Wuv, twue wuv" is coming to the stage. Yes, Inigo Montoya fans, Disney is adapting The Princess Bride for the stage, Variety reports. It's not clear whether the show will be a play or a musical, nor is there a production timeline or a creative team just yet. A previous attempt to turn the novel-turned-film into a musical fell apart in 2007. Disney Theatrical Productions is also working on stage adaptations of Shakespeare in Love, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, and Freaky Friday. A stage version of Aladdin is heading to Broadway in the spring.
“I am thrilled that the next chapter in the life of The Princess Bride will unfold on the stage,” said William Goldman, author of the book and screenwriter of the film, in a statement obtained by Broadway.com. “With [Walt Disney Studios chairman] Alan Horn, [Disney Theatrical Productions president and producer] Thomas Schumacher, and his team at Disney Theatrical Productions leading the way, Buttercup, Westley and all of Florin are in the best of hands.” (More Princess Bride stories.)
