President Obama earlier announced he'd shorten his planned trip to Asia, instead dealing with the government shutdown; now, he's canceled the trip entirely, the White House says. Obama won't visit Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, or Brunei. "The cancellation of this trip is another consequence of the House Republicans forcing a shutdown of the government," the White House notes. In Indonesia, he had been set to meet with the countries in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation; in Brunei, he was to attend a meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Wall Street Journal reports. John Kerry will make the trips to Indonesia and Brunei instead. (More President Obama stories.)
