The porn industry is getting back to business this week: A self-imposed moratorium on filming ends Friday, reports the Los Angeles Times. Industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition put the moratorium in place after three actors tested positive for HIV, but the coalition says it's confident the danger has passed. The FSC, which insists that the actors didn't get infected on set, is also requiring actors to get tested after 14 days instead of 28.
The LA Weekly isn't too impressed with the tougher testing rules, noting that it's easy for actors to "work outside the system," as has reportedly been happening even during the moratorium. And the president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation doesn't much care that the original actress to test positive didn't get infected on set. Even if true, she still "she performed with HIV between her tests," says Michael Weinstein. "If you think that Russian roulette is a great way to protect workers, then the present system is perfect." The foundation wants an industry-wide rule requiring condoms, and it's had luck so far at least in LA County. (More porn industry stories.)
