Huckabee May Cut Losses, Bail on Fla.

Mike Huckabee is starting to hedge his bets in Florida. He's no longer making travel arrangements for journalists and may leave the state before Tuesday's primary to focus on his best Super Duper Tuesday prospects. “I don’t want to abandon Florida yet,” he said last night, but he won’t air any ads in the state and is campaigning in Atlanta today, the AP reports.

Huckabee refuted the notion that his second-place finish in South Carolina Saturday took the wind out of his sails. "I haven't necessarily detected that people are bailing on us at all," he said. The ex-preacher may focus on seven evangelical-heavy Southern states that vote Feb. 5. Speculation abounds that he's assembling second-tier victories to bargain for a VP spot with John McCain.
