Boston Fire Department Chief Steve Abraira resigned today, following heavy criticism from the department's deputy chiefs of his handling of the Boston Marathon bombings, the Boston Globe reports. In his letter of resignation, Abraira blamed a "vocal and aggressive minority" for not supporting his efforts to modernize the department, and said the deputy chiefs' accusations that he had failed to show leadership in the wake of the bombings were "baseless attacks." Nevertheless, he wrote, their criticisms have made it "impossible for me to continue to do my job." Abraira will clean out his desk on Friday. (More Steve Abraira stories.)
