Yankees Venture Into ... Soccer?

The Yankees are extending their reach into the world of soccer. The team will be co-owners of an MLS squad called the New York City Football Club expected to play its first game in 2015, reports the Guardian. The Yanks will own about a quarter of the club, with the English soccer team Manchester City controlling the rest. Manchester City itself is owned by a group led by a member of the royal family from Abu Dhabi, notes the New York Times. One major wrinkle to be ironed out: The team needs to find, or build, a home stadium. It's expected to play in Yankee Stadium for at least the first season. (Read more New York Yankees stories.)
