Virginia held its state GOP convention this past weekend and emerged with its ticket for November's statewide elections: Ken Cuccinelli, Mark Obenshain, and EW Jackson. That spurred the left to promptly trot out some of the nominees' more out-of-the-ordinary bills, claims, and comments, and no candidate is getting more press than EW Jackson, a black minister and nominee for lieutenant governor. The line getting the most play, from a video posted to YouTube last year: "Planned Parenthood has been far more lethal to black lives than the KKK ever was. And the Democrat[ic] Party and their black civil rights allies are partners in this genocide." (Check out his YouTube page here.)

Writing for ABC News, Abby Phillip calls Jackson's comments "catnip for Democrats eager to jump on the opportunity to label Jackson as 'extreme'" and tie him to Cuccinelli. To wit, one of the Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor, Aneesh Chopra, wrote in a prepared statement, "Jackson is far more extreme than Ken Cuccinelli—which is quite a feat." Phillip points out that Jackson's video didn't emerge at the hands of his rivals but was posted by his own camp during a 2012 state Senate campaign. Writing for the Washington Times, Eric Golub notes that "while Democrats will call [Cuccinelli and Jackson] 'extreme' at every opportunity, Virginia is one state where the Tea Party has a solid presence. Tea Party leaders ... are already prepared to barnstorm the entire state." CNN notes that neither side has much of an early lead. (More Virginia stories.)
