Sorry, caffeine junkies, but you'll have to keep getting your energy boosts the old-fashioned way, because Wrigley is putting its Alert caffeinated gum on hold. The FDA raised concerns about caffeine increasingly popping up in weird things like gum and jelly beans, and a Wrigley exec says in a statement that the company has "paused production, sales, and marketing of Alert" in order to give the FDA time to come up with new regulations, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"After discussions with the FDA, we have a greater appreciation for its concern about the proliferation of caffeine in the nation’s food supply," the statement continues. The FDA is investigating the effect more caffeine could have on kids, but Wrigley was marketing Alert to adults; it was to be sold alongside 5-Hour Energy and similar products and would have cost $2.99 for eight pieces.
