New York shut down four of its subway lines for at least an hour today in pursuit of a fleeing suspect. What sort of dangerous fugitive prompted this manhunt? A barefoot 17-year-old who had allegedly been stealing jewelry from old ladies. Police were leading Vincens Vuktilaj out of his apartment in handcuffs today when the teen knocked over an officer and ran, CBS New York reports. He apparently ran so quickly that his shoes came off, the New York Post adds.
Believing he'd fled into the subway, police stopped service on the A, B, C, and D lines. One A train was caught between stations, necessitating a rescue to free its riders. Service has now resumed—though riders have been told to expect delays. It doesn't appear that police have caught Vuktilaj yet, though a train conductor did spot him walking along the tracks somewhere between 125th Street and 145th Street. Daily Intel for one is hoping that his capture is as dramatic as an incident last year in which a fugitive was caught coming out of a manhole. (More subway stories.)
