Six would-be terrorists have pleaded guilty to planning a terror attack in the UK last year, authorities announced today—although planning clearly wasn't their strong suit. Police say the men—Omar Khan, Zohaib Ahmed, Mohammed Hasseen, Mohammed Saud, Anzal Hussain, and Jewel Uddin—had planned to attack a rally of the right-wing English Defence League last June with guns, knives, and explosives. The tiny flaw in their scheme? They showed up after the rally had already ended, CNN reports.

After they did show up, police stopped one of their cars because it looked suspiciously beat up, and then seized it when it turned out to be uninsured. Inside they found two shotguns, kitchen knives, machetes, and an explosive device packed with nails and ball bearings. Oh, and lest there be any confusion about their intention, a note that proclaimed the EDL both the "English Drunkards League" and "enemies of Allah," and stated, "Today is a day of retaliation (especially) for your blasphemy of Allah and his Messenger Muhammad."
