Mark Sanford has an explanation for that whole trespassing complaint his ex-wife levied against him: He had to watch the big game with his son. It seems the incident took place Feb. 3, and as Sanford explains in a statement obtained by the Hill, "I did indeed watch the second half of the Super Bowl at the beach house with our 14-year-old son because as a father I didn’t think he should watch it alone."
He says he tried to reach Jenny, who was out of town, beforehand. He ended up meeting her "at the back steps under the light of my cellphone when she returned" and explaining what happened, the statement continues. Both Sanfords say they don't know how the court documents, which they thought were sealed, became public. Mark Sanford points out the convenient timing, "less than three weeks before" he goes up against Elizabeth Colbert Busch in a House special election. (Read more Mark Sanford stories.)
