The CIA quietly captured Osama bin Laden's son-in-law last week and spirited him away to the US, a Turkish newspaper reported today. Turkish authorities first seized Sulaiman Abu Ghaith last month at a luxury Ankara hotel thanks to a CIA tip-off, the AFP reports. The CIA had asked Turkey to extradite him to the US, but the country refused because there were no international warrants for his arrest, UPI explains. Instead, Turkey deported him to Kuwait by way of Jordan—and the CIA snatched him up in Jordan.
The deportation just happened to coincide with John Kerry's visit to Ankara. The US has been after Ghaith ever since he appeared alongside his father-in-law in a video following the 9/11 attacks. He has appeared in numerous videos praising the attacks and threatening other violence, prompting Kuwait to strip him of his citizenship. (More CIA stories.)
