Obama Picks Sylvia Burwell as Budget Chief: Sources

President Obama has planned his next big nomination: Walmart Foundation chief Sylvia Burwell as budget director, Reuters reports. Sources say that Obama will name the 47-year-old veteran of Bill Clinton's White House tomorrow. On the upside, she directed philanthropic efforts from Wal-Mart's Arkansas headquarters, she brings an outsider's view to the White House, and she's female—unlike most of Obama's other choices for top jobs.

On the downside, she will no doubt be embroiled in endless slogging between Republicans and Democrats over the budget. Neat factoid: The new job will reunite Burwell with Jack Lew, who worked as Clinton's budget chief and is now treasury secretary under Obama. If Burwell gets the position, she will will replace acting budget director Jeffrey Zients. (More Sylvia Burwell stories.)
