A Chicago teenager was gunned down just hours after her 14-year-old sister sat on a stage behind President Obama as he gave a speech at her high school about gun violence. Janay McFarlane, the 18-year-old mother of a 3-month-old boy, was shot dead while visiting friends and family in North Chicago, the AP reports. Police are questioning two men aged 18 and 20 in connection with the shooting, which happened as McFarlane was walking with friends, reports the Chicago Tribune.

In his speech, Obama paid tribute to Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old Chicago girl shot dead days after performing at his inauguration. After Hadiya's killing, McFarlane said, "Momma, that's so sad,'" her mother says. "She was always touched by any kid that got killed. She was always touched by mothers who couldn't be there for their babies because they were gone." In the two days after Obama made his Chicago speech, two other teenagers were shot dead in the city in separate incidents, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. (More Chicago stories.)
