Jon Stewart Rips House GOP Over Sandy Relief

Republican House majority is our other major disaster

Jon Stewart unloaded on the House Republican majority in an epic segment last night about the Sandy relief bill debacle. Even when the House eventually approved $9.7 billion in aid for storm victims, that was far from the $60 billion the Senate approved. It's voting on all those other billions next week, "because what's another week when you've been f---ed for months?" asks an incredulous Stewart. And then there were the 67 Republicans who voted against even that $9.7 billion: Stewart singles out one Steven Palazzo, who just last year was pleading for funding for the same flood insurance funding for his Mississippi district, suffering the effects of Katrina.

"This is just a simple, down-the-middle, black and white, cut and dry, warm cup of What Would Jesus or Any Other Human Being That Isn't an Asshole Do?" Stewart said. "And you blew it. What possible reason could you have for voting against aid to hurricane victims by way of a flood reimbursement fund?" Paul Ryan blamed "pork barrel spending" in the bill for his "no" vote, but as Stewart points out, there's about as much pork in the two-paragraph bill "as in the mini-fridge in the break room at PETA." Give the segment a watch, or click for Alex Jones' epic rant on Piers Morgan last night. (More Jon Stewart stories.)
