It's not much, but the Oregonian has tracked down an acquaintance of mall shooter Jacob Tyler Roberts who provides an inkling of what was happening in the 22-year-old's mind: The acquaintance, who lived with Roberts for a few months earlier in the year, said Roberts had recently sold all his possessions and was excited about a planned move to Hawaii. Then he called a few days ago to say he'd missed his flight.
- "Asked whether Roberts may have been depressed and might have just snapped, (the acquaintance) replied, 'I think that's exactly what happened.'"
