Judges Disagree on Calif. 'Gay Cure' Ban

Less than 24 hours after a federal judge blocked California's new ban on "gay cures," a second federal judge in a separate case declined to interfere with the law. Both cases involve therapists who want the law banning gay-to-straight "conversion therapy" overturned. The second judge's decision was appealed, but unless that appeal is granted, the law will take effect Jan. 1 and will apply to everyone except the plaintiffs in the first case, to whom the first judge granted a temporary injunction. The disagreement between the two judges is rare, legal analysts tell the Los Angeles Times; one predicts the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will ultimately resolve the issue.
