Italy's center-left Democratic Party is preparing to choose a new candidate for prime minister—and if it picks the wrong guy, Silvio Berlusconi thinks he might just have to step in. "I think that it's right for someone who had the honor of leading the Italian government for almost 10 years to reflect on the way to achieve this modernization of Italy, this liberal revolution," Berlusconi says. If Florence mayor Matteo Renzi ekes out a victory, Berlusconi appears less likely to run, Reuters notes. But the AP reports that the latest vote puts Renzi behind party leader Pier Luigi Bersani. The former prime minister, who last month was sentenced to a year in prison over tax fraud, had earlier said he wouldn't run. (More Silvio Berlusconi stories.)
