Paul Smith shattered records all night yesterday and he dragged the Tulsa football team along for the ride. Smith threw for 312 yards and five touchdowns as the Golden Hurricane destroyed Bowling Green 63-7 in the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, the Tulsa World reports. Smith set an NCAA record by throwing for at least 300 yards in all 14 Tulsa games.

The senior quarterback finished the season with 5,065 passing yards, good for sixth best all time. He is the seventh NCAA Division I-A QB to pass for more than 5,000 in a season. The margin of victory was the largest in bowl history, passing Alabama's 61-6 win over Syracuse in the 1953 Orange Bowl. (More Tulsa stories.)
