The Writers Guild of America vowed it will picket the upcoming Golden Globes award ceremony, contradicting a producers' statement that an agreement was being worked out. Union officials said the guild will protest anything created by Dick Clark Productions, a struck company, although it has granted waivers allowing writers to work for the Screen Actors Guild and Independent Spirit awards.
"The WGA has great respect and admiration for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association," which sponsors the awards, "but we are engaged in a crucial struggle that will protect our income and intellectual property rights for generations to come," the union said in a statement. Many stars have threatened not to show up at the awards ceremony January 13 if it means crossing picket lines. (More Hollywood writers' strike stories.)
