United Wings Clipped in Major Computer Glitch
Aloft at last.   (thedominator2013)

A computer system glitch yesterday snarled United Airlines passenger and reservation records, triggering long delays for passengers. The glitch was the latest in a string of snafus since the airline combined computer systems with Continental's in the spring. Some 200 flights were delayed, and the reservation system and website were completely dead for nearly three hours.

During that time, the airline stopped sending planes to its hubs in Newark, New Jersey, and San Francisco, reports AP. "We're on a plane, on the tarmac in Las Vegas in the middle of August. It's warm. It's uncomfortable. It's cramped," said a passenger who waited on the tarmac for two hours. Officials aren't quite certain what triggered the mess. (More United Airlines stories.)
