Alleged Aurora theater shooter James Holmes was pretty well known to mental health professionals at the University of Colorado before the Dark Knight Rises rampage—because he met with at least three of them. Holmes, who had been a doctoral student in neuroscience, met with professionals linked to student mental health services before dropping out of the post-grad program. At some point, university officials asked campus police at least for a background check on him, notes CBS News, but it's not clear if the matter was dropped from there.

Just one of the three mental health professionals who saw Holmes has been named: Dr. Lynne Fenton, who warned the university's threat team about Holmes, has been subpoenaed to appear in Holmes' case. Holmes mailed a package to her that was found three days after the theater rampage in the campus mail room, and his lawyers want to have it declared privileged material in order to keep the prosecution from using it.
