The Ottawa Senators improved their conference-best record to 24-8-4 with a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Ottawa goaltender Martin Gerber was shaken up just four minutes into the game after taking a Tim Connolly slap shot to the mask, but was able to continue and compiled 29 saves to lead the Senators to victory, according to the AP.

Dany Heatley scored his team-leading 23rd goal and recorded two assists for the Senators. Wade Redden also added a goal but only one assist for Ottawa, which has won eight of their last 10. Jochen Hecht, Brian Campbell, and Adam Mair had the goals for the Sabres, who had a six-game winning streak snapped. Ryan Miller stopped 19 shots in the losing effort. (More hockey stories.)
