A 22-year-old Associated Press intern from Colorado Springs was found dead in the elevator shaft in his apartment building in Mexico City, where he was working this summer. Aspiring journalist Armando Montano, who recently graduated from Grinnell College, began interning for AP early last month and worked on a number of stories, including the shooting of three federal cops at the Mexico City airport, notes AP. Police are investigating his death.

"Armando was a smart, joyful, hardworking, and talented young man," said AP's Latin American bureau chief Marjorie Miller. "He absolutely loved journalism and was soaking up everything he could. In his short time with the AP, he won his way into everyone’s hearts with his hard work, his effervescence, and his love of the profession.” He's survived by his parents.
