"Joe the Plumber" is running for Congress in Ohio, and a new campaign video in which he criticizes gun-control laws is raising a few eyebrows. In it, Samuel Wurzelbacher says this: "In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated.” He makes a similar point about the Armenian genocide.

Some reaction:

  • Jewish Democrats: "Using the memories of the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust to make a political point is never appropriate, under any circumstances," says the National Jewish Democratic Coalition, according to the Hill.
  • Wurzelbacher himself: “People need to understand what happened," he tells Politico. "Different countries around the world have tried to disarm their citizens, and then have tried to exterminate their own now-unarmed citizens."
