In 1999, Anders Behring Breivik—who confessed, a dozen years later, to killing 77 people in twin terror attacks in Norway—grew concerned about his looks and wanted to appear more "Aryan," so he got a nose job, a former friend testified at Breivik's trial. Breivik said he had the procedure after getting punched by a Pakistani man, but the friend doesn't remember such an attack, the BBC reports. Breivik also powdered his face and worried about his hair, the friend testified.

Other friends testified that in the years leading up to the attacks, Breivik became "more serious and less social," and also became preoccupied with immigration and the "multiculturalism" he saw as a problem. The change occurred when he moved in with his mother, one friend noted, and at that point he began constantly bringing up politics in conversation. He also became increasingly isolated, often refusing visits from friends. Breivik's trial is expected to last through the end of next month. (More Anders Behring Breivik stories.)
