Lady Gaga may have sold 50,000 tickets to a concert in Indonesia, but the show will not go on after threats of violence finally forced the pop star to pull the plug, reports the BBC. Police had previously refused Gaga a permit, saying that threats from Islamic groups who objected to her Born This Way Ball tour as vulgar made it impossible to guarantee security unless she agreed to tone down her act. After monitoring the situation "minute to minute," Gaga's team instead called the show off. "This is not only about Lady Gaga's security, but extends to those who will be watching her," said a statement from Team Gaga.

The hardline Islamic Defenders Front, who had jeered Gaga as the "Devil's messenger," cheered the news. "Indonesians will be protected from sin brought about by this Mother Monster, the destroyer of morals," said its chairman. "Lady Gaga fans, stop complaining. Repent and stop worshipping the devil. Do you want your lives taken away by God as infidels?" Gaga tweeted before the cancellation: "There is nothing holy about hatred." (More Lady Gaga stories.)
