Sabres score late to top Islanders, Blackhawks skate past Predators

The Red Wings improved their league-best point total to 53 with a 6-2 win over the Kings, who have the league’s worst record. Niklas Kronwall tallied four assists in the win and Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Cleary each had a goal and an assist for Detroit. Dominick Hasek stopped 18 shots to earn the victory, reports the AP. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Maxim Afinogenov’s goal with 2:17 left in the third period gave the Sabres a 2-1 win over the Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum. Ryan Miller had 42 saves to lead the way for Buffalo.
  • The Predators dropped their fifth straight contest, losing 5-2 to the Blackhawks. Robert Lang and Patrick Sharp each had two goals for Chicago.
