Your left profile is the hot one, apparently. Researchers at Wake Forest University devoted time to the issue by asking 37 college students to rate 20 faces in photos, and found they preferred those showing their left sides, Huffington Post reports. "Our results suggest that posers' left cheeks tend to exhibit a greater intensity of emotion, which observers find more esthetically pleasing," said the researchers in a statement.

"Our findings provide support for a number of concepts—the notions of lateralized emotion and right hemispheric dominance with the right side of the brain controlling the left side of the face during emotional expression." On a more practical note, one author of the study advised people to turn to the right—that's your right—"so that they show more of their left, than right, cheek when being photographed," he said. "Others will find these images more appealing than the reverse." (More study stories.)
