As the dust settles on this year's Planned Parenthood funding controversy, Susan G. Komen Foundation dollars are making their way back into the organization's coffers. Komen will fund at least 17 Planned Parenthood affiliates this year, approximately matching last year's figure. While some funding applications were rejected due to limited cash, that's fairly typical, Komen execs tell the Washington Post; money is, however, a little tighter after the furor shrunk donations.
The relationship between the two groups appears to be healing. "We’ve acknowledged our missteps and apologized. People need to know that we have not and never will walk away from women in need," says a Komen spokeswoman. For their part, Planned Parenthood reps don't think politics affected this year's funding decisions; they say the debate may actually have forged closer ties between the organizations.
