Living with her parents and toiling as a teacher in an after-school program, Ingrid Michaelson’s music career consisted of gigs in a coffee shop and a dream of having one of her songs on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Thanks to MySpace, the dream has come true, a New York Times profile says. Instead of just one song on “Grey’s,” she got three, and then was asked to write a song just for the show.

Like many other modern musicians, Michaelson posted her album online, where it caught the attention of a music talent agent. The 28-year-old now has the No. 2 album on the iTunes pop chart, completed a cross-country tour and will play a sold-out concert in New York tomorrow. Her music has been played on radio, in commercials and on VH-1. “I had a three-year plan, and we achieved all those goals in 10 months,” her rep said. (More Ingrid Michaelson stories.)
