Newt Gingrich is ignoring calls to get out of the Republican primaries, saying the media, his opponents, the GOP, and the whole political system just don't get him, reports MSNBC. “The thing I find most disheartening about this campaign is the difficulty of talking about positive ideas on a large scale because the news media can’t cover it and candidly, my opponents can’t comprehend it,” Gingrich said at a rally in Illinois.
Gingrich said Republicans failed when they tried to govern, and instead worked best when they tried to change the system. “We cannot be a normal party," he said. “We are miserable at trying to govern in their system. We are in the business of changing Washington, not being accepted by it. It is a fundamentally different model." Gingrich had stronger words for his party and the US system in general. “We are at the edge of such extraordinary opportunities and it is so hard to get this party to understand it,” said a frustrated Gingrich. “Our political system is so methodically and deliberately stupid.” (More Newt Gingrich stories.)
