John Mayer has canceled his upcoming tour and will not be doing any concerts for the indefinite future, reports USA Today. The rocker has suffered a relapse of a granuloma—a mass of tissue—on his vocal cords. "This is bad news," Mayer wrote on his blog, saying he'll have to undergo "another surgery and a very long chemically-imposed period of silence…"

Mayer, 34, described the condition: A "granuloma forms and continues to snowball because it's in a spot where the vocal cords hit together and there's no way to really give it a chance to heal without a good stretch of time and some pretty intensive treatment." His shelved tour was slated to begin on April 9. His album Born and Raised will still be released on May 22. Mayer says he's going to immediately start writing his next album.
