There could be another Kennedy in DC soon. Joseph P. Kennedy III, Bobby Kennedy's grandson, has announced he's running for the Massachusetts congressional seat currently held by retiring Rep. Barney Frank. "I believe this country was founded on a simple idea: that every person deserves to be treated fairly, by each other and by their government, but that's not happening in America anymore," said the 31-year-old Democrat, son of former congressman Joseph Kennedy II. He recently moved from Cambridge to Brookline, part of the state's newly redrawn 4th congressional district, reports the New York Daily News.
Kennedy resigned last month from his job as assistant district attorney in Middlesex, and served in the Peace Corps. He has never held elected office but worked as co-chairman for Edward Kennedy's final 2006 reelection campaign. Two Republicans and three other Democratic candidates have already joined the race. The resignation of Rhode Island congressman Patrick Kennedy last year marked the first time in 63 years that a Kennedy hasn't served in elected office in Washington. (More Massachusetts stories.)
